Gary Oberbrunner from GenArts Inc., makers of the Sapphire suite of plug-ins, discusses the open source project Open FX, dedicated to creating a standard file format for digital effects plug-ins that can be used by any company. He discusses the pros and cons, how it benefits the digital effects artist, and also the open source nature, which allows anyone with plug-in programming skills to adapt and extend the format. He also talks a bit about GenArts plug-in suite Sapphire, a collection of 200 visual special effects plug-ins.
